About this deal

Thanks to how the book progresses, you get to see the entirety of Walter’s life unfold, from his young days as a rookie cop, all the way up to his present, when an older, dying Walter attempts to bring his great obsession to an end by finally catching the woman who has haunted him for decades. Man I can just go on and on about this book but suffice it to say that O'Brien becomes obsessed by her. Patterson and Barker have produced something very special with Death of the Black Widow, which was an utterly insane and awesome read. Because he is so drunk, and does not appear to be a police officer, Driscoll works him over and Amy --- a professional escort --- gets away.

In my early teens a simple tunnel bus ride over and a short walk to the concert venues aloud me to see all kinds of bands. Listen in as she takes six different people on a career change journey to help them figure out what work they would really love to do and create a plan of how to make that career change happen. D. Barker and Patterson craft an intensely creepy story that manages to also feel real and is grounded in reality. She quickly and expertly attacked him, winding him as she escaped down a nearby alley not to be seen again…or so we might think. I was really impressed with how Death of the Black Widow unfolded as a story, especially as Patterson and Barker went out of their way to make this standalone read as enticing and epic as possible. Hawkeye and Yelena will forever live with the grief of Black Widow's death, but Natasha's sacrifice will forever be an inspiration to future Avengers and a warning to anyone who might threaten Earth again.

I must give a lot of the credit here to Barker, whose career started in the horror genre before venturing into dark serial killer stories and psychological thrillers. I loved the "fantasy" aspect of the novel, when it took us into the world of make-believe, and blended what we know as real with what our brain struggles to makes sense of. A much-used word, karma is loosely understood as a system of checks and balances in our lives, of good actions and bad deeds, of good thoughts and bad intentions. He jerks you this way and that, and you think you know what’s going on and then – oh heck, no – he’s turning you yet someplace else until he screeches into the end and you’re left thinking what the heck just happened?I have been keen to check out this awesome writing team for a while ( The Noise is currently sitting on my shelf waiting for my attention), and when I received a copy of their latest book, Death of the Black Widow, I made sure to read it as soon as possible.
